"The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you will go!"
- Dr. Seuss
Welcome to the Middle School Literacy Center!
I love to read! As an educator for 24 years, mother of five, and soon to be grandmother, my goal is to teach the love of reading to all children as if they were my own.
Our students will be faced with challenges in the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR). All students in 3rd thru 8th grade will be assessed in reading, while students in 4th and 7th grade will also be assessed in writing. Fortunately, our 5th and 8th grade students will have the opportunity to test more than once on the STAAR reading test if they are not successful the first time. Reading intervention classes will be implemented to assist our students that do not pass the first administration. Tutoring is available every Monday through Thursday from 3 pm to 4 pm in the Cafeteria.
My role as Literacy Coach is to support students and teachers in "Best Practices" for English Language Arts and Reading, as well as promote school-wide literacy. This year I have been assigned a 7th grade ELAR section, and am very excited to work with your children! The MacArthur Faculty and Staff are dedicated to the success of all our children!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Grace G. Garcia, Middle School Literacy Coach
